Staten Island 650 MW battery project scrapped after community opposition

A proposed 650 MW battery-energy-storage installation on Staten Island, spanning the Travis and Bulls Head areas, was scrapped after sustained community opposition. Residents and local officials raised concerns about the scale of the lithium array near homes and wetlands, the absence of community notification, and the risk of toxic off-gassing in a fire. Following the withdrawal, New York State Senator Andrew Lanza introduced Senate Bill S4390, which addresses community notification for battery-storage siting.
